This book is designed to help Mentally Ill persons who have been committed to in-patient treatment style psychiatric hospitals avoid being re-committed to in-patient settings. It is also meant to be used as a tool to help guide group therapy sessions in the in-patient setting. It is designed to be small eugh to be a 'pocket book' so Mentally ill persons can easily carry it with them and always have it available for review. It deliberately avoids the use of medical jargon and is written in simple, plain language.
Tony Mann worked with the mentally ill as a nurse's aid in the early 1980s for almost three years with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and then went to the University of South Carolina School of Music and studied classical guitar and composition. He went back to the University of South Carolina to study nursing and received his Bachelor of Science in nursing in December of 1995. He received his Masters of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Vanderbilt University in the Fall of 1998 and returned to South Carolina Department of Mental Health as a provider where he worked for the next decade. He now works for a hospital owned Primary Care Practice. This is his first book. He enjoys playing ball with his son, white water kayaking, songwriting and recording and playing guitar. He currently lives outside of Columbia SC.
