This thing just looks nice. Silver in color with a nice blue led which can be set to on, off, or auto. Track and time info is informative and clear. And best of all, just about every important button from the remote control is also on the front of the dvd player. Lovely. Ok, so when you I set up the dvd player for a proper PCM stereo signal and removed the dolby and all that it sounds just excellent for cds and dvds to my preamp and also to my pc speakers. It has been proven that I am not the only one that agrees that this thing sounds just as bit as good as a certain other cd player I had that cost $500.. and it was made specifically for cds. Plus it had a more open soundstage and a tad airy sound taht floats in the room. Picture quality is not as crisp, sharp, or detailed as some upconverters, but that's expected with this model. I did find however that the frame rate was noticeably better than the upconverters that I have seen. Color is great. A lot of video options here. Conclusion: I am thinking about buying another one for back up. I just bought my second one on Ebay a month ago. The first one lasted 6+ years and I played many cds and dvds on it 95% of everyday I owned it. Worthy of purchase. And if properly setup.. it is worth more than an asking price just for cd playback alone.Read full review
I purchased this exact some model back in 2004 for my Parents and it's still going strong. Panasonic makes excellent DVD players & this one is no exception. Delivers high quality 480 progressiveinterlaced lines of resolution, which looks fantastic on their 32' CRT & on my sister's 40' inch CRT. They're both satisfied with this underrated DVD player.

This has one very special feature that only a few other older Panasonic players have: infinite variable zoom!!! This means you can choose how much of the side of the movies you chop off when you view real wide screen movies. You can leave a little of the top and bottom empty and have less chopped off the side and not even notice the little bit left empty on the top and bottom. Sometimes this is critical, especially with the wider screen movies. No other players do this except the S27, no new players have this feature. Keith @ www.inner-growth.com
