Don't get this phone if you're not on tmobile or not planning on it. First advertised as being compatible with att frequencies (false), and that there would be future software updates for newer versions of android (false). More on that in a bit. Onto the rest... It's a very nice phone for how old it is. Nice thick scratch resistant corning gorilla glass for the screen, screen is not too tiny, and not humongous, hdmi out, 8mp camera, record video in 1080p, decent battery life, and hdmi out. It's not the thinnest phone, but that's fine since it also doesn't have shoddy construction for it to fold like an iphone 6 taco. I find it to be a decently sturdy enough phone. Tmobile only frequencies? Yes, back in the day when att wanted to merge with tmobile, the g2x was listed as having support for att cellular frequencies, the merger never happened (thanks god) and also being compatible with att frequencies was a lie from the beginning (thank you tmobile). Software updates never materialized? Tmobile promised to update android on this device for a time, something that barely and figuratively never panned out (this was not tmobiles fault). Not being able to upgrade to newer versions of android on this device was purely lg's decision to use the nvidia tegra 2 hardware in this phone. Nvidia tegra 3 has the "NEON" coprocessor which tegra 2 lack. Versions of android newer than gingerbread have a lot of coding for the neon coprocessor. This isn't to say that you can't install newer versions of android on this device, just that if you do it will run slow, and drain your battery fast (not feasible for a daily driver). You're stuck with android froyo and another promise tmobile can't deliver on. This was lg's flagship phone for 2011? Yes. You're the idiot who's not on tmobile? Yes, i don't have tmobile. I need a phone and phone service that will work in alaska. Hardly a lesson learned, this phone had a bungled launch from tmobile which led to many getting deceived even years later (that information for att frequency support is still on the net). You gave it 5 stars? Yes i still gave it five stars as there are several saving graces. Hdmi out, great camera, 1080p video recording, decent size screen, not too thin, not too light (it has some heft), sturdy doesn't fold like a taco construction. Works great on tmobile. Also the phone is moddable, you can install twrp or clockworkmod recovery images and install third party roms, like cyanogenmod 7 (this is really the only android upgrade out there that will get you gingerbread on this phone). Froyo/gingerbread? I have found that there are plenty of new apps that will run just fine in a froyo/gingerbread environment; if not, then you can find alternatives. How was life for you? Other than obviously appreciating the phone for what it is and does; on att, i suffered with 2g dropping reception inside buildings until my nexus 5 came in the mail (it's public knowledge that phone companies are getting rid of 2g, surprised there's still 2g reception where i'm at (not currently in alaska)). Life for other people? On tmobile this phone will access 3g and 4g speeds, and i bet those that need a smartphone and not the newest android will be more than happy with this phone. Even people who actually use the full potential of the software and hardware on there phones like me will still find this phone to be a capable daily driver on tmobile.Read full review

Absolutely love this phone. Very easy to use for this older lady. The only thing I dislike is it is quite heavy. I was using a smaller phone and much lighter, got use to the size, but it is heavy. Love the apps, works with apps used in my job which makes working a little easier with everything on the phone that you have with you anyway. Love it
Phone is great, nice camera, easily rooted if you'd like. You cant find a better spec'd phone than this for the $200 range, great deal. I bought high capacity battery for $10 off ebay, after 10 hours of work and watching netflix on my breaks i have 60% left, not bad. My first time on T-mobile, this phone with 30 dollar plan, unlimited web, perfect for me. For some reason the phone would read 4g in the kitchen just fine, speed test reads 10 Megabit down! But when i go upstairs to my room the 4g drops and it tries to connect to Edge, which is slower than 56k where i am :( fixed it by forcing the phone to read wcdma only, not gsm. Now it doesn't disconnect and try to reconnect over and over again. And i get 4g in my room, speed test reads 3 Megabit down which is still better than my old 3g phone. I'm happyRead full review
