In 1970, John Wayne earned a long overdue Academy Award for his larger-than-life performance as the drunken but fearless one-eyed marshall Rooster Cogburn. Relive one of the great moments in screen history as Rooster faces the outlaws alone, refusing to give in and overcoming the odds in classic John Wayne style. One of the finest westerns ever made and a favorite here at Movie Magic USA! This Special Collector's Edition DVD is released by Paramount Pictures in honor of Duke's 100th birthday May 26th, 2007 and is loaded with all-new special features. For fans of the Duke, this is not to be missed! Steven Holt, Movie Magic USA
I am not not now or have I ever been a John Wayne fan, but this is a film he should be very proud of. In my opinion many of Wayne's films have been products that he wanted to make not a film that might garner him new fans or develop his range of acting. True Grit is different although his character is still that same ol' one Wayne has played so many times before...and before...and before. This time we get to see some of the other side of these types of characters...and it isn't always a pretty site. A small bit of development for most actors and their careersnot in Wayne's and that is exactly what helps me get behind this film. True Grit is also a rousing good time action film well-made with solid dialogue and very good supporting actors enjoying their best work and solid opportunity to shine.Read full review
The 1969 movie True Grit is a classic that I enjoy watching over and over again. I think it was one of the best westerns ever made, and it never gets old. I watch it every chance I can, I also try to catch it anytime it is broadcast on television, and I own the DVD. John Wayne was U.S Marshal Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn a one-eyed, hard-drinking, straight-shooting, cantankerous lawman and he gave an award winning performance. He reluctantly helps a teenager Mattie Ross played by Kim Darby who also won academy Awards for their roles in the movie. The supporting cast did an awesome job, and the title song was performed by Glen Cambell who also played La Boeuf a Texas Ranger and remember at the time Glen Cambell was not an actor he was a singer. The DVD is very clear and sharp, so sit back and enjoy the showRead full review
Classic performance from the biggest Western star that Hollywood ever had. DVD plays perfectly so I'm well satisfied with the purchase.
