Of all the Tron games that came out with the release of the Tron: Legacy movie, the Wii title definitely got the short stick. The game actually only consists of 7 different grid games, and a single player "storyline" (if you can even call it that) that is nothing more than a coverup to force the player to go through a few rounds of each game. The 7 games that make up this Wii title are: Light cycle racing, Light cycle battles, Disc wars, Tank battles, 4-wheeler racing (called a 4Runner in-game), 4-wheeler battles, and a strange mix between the disc wars and playing catch with a glowing ball and scoops. The game allows for player profile creation, but customizations are fairly limited, and the players themselves are very poorly designed (All characters' faces are essentially squares). The game limits you to 10 profiles, as each profile chooses their costume color, no two profiles can have the same color, and there are only 10 colors to choose from to begin with. As for the actual game-play, at least 3 of the 7 different games aren't even worth playing more than once: Disc Wars and Grid Scoops (that's what I call it; not sure what the real name is) were the worst two, and were absolutely useless. The disc wars consist of running and jumping in circles while mashing the "throw disc" button - no motion activated controls here, and auto-targeting determines which enemy your disc flies towards. Grid Scoops is actually fairly similar to how playing Hot Shots Golf works: a power bar that moves up and down and has to be activated within a certain range, and twisting the Wii-mote to apply spin. 4Runner racing was frustrating and unproductive, as it's nearly impossible to drive in a straight line, (these things are nearly constantly sliding all over the track) let alone do so while avoiding machine guns and obstacles. The battle tanks were amusing but the controls were awkward. A bird's eye camera, coupled with pointing the Wii-mote to aim your gun, directional buttons to move your tank, and A, B, and the - (minus) key for various weapons and shield equates to a complicated control scheme being performed by only 1 hand. 4Runner Battles were a nice change of pace from the other games, as they involved hilly terrains and gladiator-style shootouts with weapons, powerups, and shields. The 2 different Lightcycle games had the most natural control schemes of all the games. The races were fun to a point but quickly became boring as they were always fairly easy to win, regardless of CPU difficulty settings. The game's one redeeming quality, though, is where it really shines: The Lightcycle Arena. The Lightcycle Battles are based on the original Tron game, with the bikes and trails and objective to survive and kill off the other players. If you saw the movie, then the Lightcycle arena is similar to the Lightcycle grid game in the movie. This game has well-designed, natural controls, and the AI become legitimately difficult to kill when harder difficulty levels are selected. This game alone is the only reason I purchased this title, and with 4-player multiplayer, this is one game that can be played for days on end. For those who are thinking of purchasing this title, get it solely for the Lightcycle arena, and you won't be disappointed. If you're looking for anything else from the game, you will be disappointed.Read full review
Tron Tron Tron. That's all I was getting from my 6year old. I ended up finding a good deal on ebay. I must say this is entertaining. Plenty of fun minigames. Some easy some hard. But not so hard that a 6yr old cannot play. We love playing in team mode. It might not be worth full/new price. But certainly worth $20+
Great game, you just have to wait for it to load a lot. And story mode is super cheesy. Sweet lighting, and you can make your own guy.
I bought this product for my 7 year old grandson for Christmas this year because he plays the PC version on my computer just about every time he comes for a visit...I mite ad he loves it!!!!
Fun game for TRON fans out there- you can customize your own characters, mini-games on the grid in team mode or battle mode, and there's a story mode. Awesome game! :)
