Love this truck. But if you put the 6s batteries in it go ahead and do some upgrades unless you want to break it within minutes. Tighten up the clutch on the spur gear all the way, not the way Traxxas recommends. A hobby shop told me this and they were right. I have put a ton of hours on it with no problems. Smoked the first spur gear within minutes of taking the truck out of the box. Second is upgrade the axles. I replaced all 6 of mine with steel ones after melting several of mine very shortly after I got it. Do all this and the truck is a beast that will put a huge smile on your face.

Lets start by saying this truck is NOT for small kids. It's way out of the league of your 7 or 9 year old. The E-Maxx 3908L goes 50mph out of the box and it weighs 10 pounds. You get my drift...it can be a dangerous weapon esp. when kids are trying to chase it, etc., which they will try to do, even with proper supervision. The acceleration is incredible. It can wheelie even at over 30mph...climbs curbs like they're a small fallen branch...loves to jump over anything...and is a great go anywhere, do anything monster truck. The control dock does require either an i-phone or ipod-touch (not included)...and the software from the i-store. The software is very powerful, and takes full advantage of the on-board telemetry sensors. You can choose what sensor information is displayed and what warnings you want, i.e. low battery level, motor temperature, etc. It also keeps track of the high speed, and can record runs. You can also have favorite setups for different courses or tracks or driving conditions. The options include: steering sensitivity, throttle sensitivity, steering percentage, braking percentage, and throttle trim. When you first start out, I highly recommend starting in 'training mode' where you can choose the maximum power output to the motor. [I set this to about 30% when one of my friends wants to run it for the first time] The tires are massive at over 6 inches in diameter. It can climb practically anything. Add to those huge tires the power of the brushless motor, the Castle Creations motor controller, and twin 5000mAH LiPo's and you definitely have a turf killer as it will tear stripes in your yard without thinking twice. A HUGE warning here: from the factory the slip clutch (used to protect the spur gear from that massive torque) is set WAY too loose. I burned out mine the second time I ran the truck. I suggest tightening it all the way down and backing off one turn before even starting. On the plus side, Traxxas support is amazing, and sends out replacement parts, no questions asked. I'm really impressed with them. As to durability, it's a way overpowered monster truck. I was expecting to break a LOT of things. I know I will be buying spare parts, but that's expected with anything this powerful. I've flipped it many times (often at speeds I shouldn't have been going for the conditions,) the only things that I've replaced so far (free from Traxxas) are: a tire that flew apart at high speed (they sent me 2 free), and the clutch. I've now purchased the 65mph gearing and the Talon tires needed for 65mph, but just received them today and it's raining. I'll probably post my impressions of them on the Traxxas Forum. I'm incredibly happy with my purchase of the Traxxas E-Maxx 3908L and I'm sure you will be as well.Read full review
The main chassis on my emaxx broke after 1 hour of driving. It goes 50mph with 3s lipos but it is not made for speed it is an off-road truck and it does a great job with that. I recommend this to anyone interested in a nice rc monster truck. It is a lot of fun.
