The middle entry in the Unicron Trilogy, 'Transformers: Energon' has the sad distinction of being among the lowest-regarded programs released in the franchise. This is due to a number of reasons, the chief one being a poor dub at the hands of Voicebox Entertainment. Translated from a Japanese series, 'Transformers: Superlink', 'Energon' continues where the previous series, 'Transformers: Armada', left off, with the heroic Autobots working to rebuild their world following a devastating attack by the planet-eater Unicron and the evil Decepticons, first manipulated by the enigmatic Alpha-Q and later by the reborn Megatron, working towards restoring Unicron and conquering the galaxy. Among the notable flaws for this series are a poor dub, animation glitches and misspelled episode titles. Much to the credit of the producers of this set, they managed to minimize the flaws - two episodes of the four with misspelled titles have had these corrected, and some of the dubbing issues have been addressed. In addition, the first two episodes are significantly re-edited from the original broadcasts. No animation flaws have been fixed in the remaining episodes, however. Also to note for buyers - while the box claims this is a fifty-two episode series, this is incorrect as 'Energon' had only fifty-one episodes, with one episode left untranslated from 'Superlink' for reasons unknown. Despite these flaws, 'Energon' itself does not have a bad story. It is at times exciting, engaging, and interesting. I chose to purchase it after first borrowing it from my local library - while aware of these flaws, I was also aware of the original version in Japanese. While a prodding piece, it isn't a poor story. While this series is anything but perfect, it had a great deal of potential. I chose to purchase it because of what could have been. While I can't easily recommend it, I have no problem pointing people in the direction of it.Read full review
Watching this series was a labor of love. It connects the Armada and Cybertron series. The USA series was sadly cranked out before the animation was quite finished, so the USA version is a step down in quality from the Japanese rendering. The voices of most characters are irritating, plot is random and hard to follow, and there's a lot of talking. On the plus side, the voices for Prime and Megatron are consistent from the earlier series and excellently voiced by Gary Chalk and David Kaye... and of course it's fun seeing the toys come to life a bit. BUT, I'd buy this only after you purchase every other Transformers series that exists. (I had to watch most of it on 1.5 speed.) Painful.
Why I decided to buy it? Well it is pretty simple, I like the transformers cartoon series, thanks to Ebay I can find almost everything here. My first step was to find the right price, then just buy it but always remember, if you really need it or want it go ahead then and buy it. Thank you for reading my review, and have a great day !!!
Transformers energon is a must for THe collection of any true transformers fan, it picks up where armada left off
