Those new to "genetealogy" should be able to understand a good portion of this book. The approach of this book is very genealogist friendly. I finished reading this weeks ago but often refer to the back glossary to try and recall the various terms/definitions. So keep this book within reach when explaining DNA testing to others that are interested. I'm currently not researching any maternal ancestry (mtDNA) so I was able to skip some parts and not miss out on anything crucial to Y-DNA testing etc.. My hope is that this book doesn't morph into an outdated reference tool anytime soon. And I'd like to see various genealogy societies become familiar with this type of research and provide talks and seminars. Currently you can post questions about DNA tesing on the Rootsweb website - there is a message board devoted to this topic. And Ann Turner (co-author) has been very active responding to various questions. As more and more people get tested - interesting stories are in the making thus more books are sure to follow.Read full review
We are searching for a family member and I needed to learn more about DNA testing. The info seems to be helpfull. I haven't had time to really get into the book the way I will a little later.
