After waiting some years to get my hands on an N Gauge Thomas - Tomix had discontinued the range, I was delighted to find that they had redesigned some of the range and were manufacturing again. Mine arrived in good time from the Japanese supplier, Plaza, but only after paying custom charges of £24. And then to find that it didn't work! After a brief investigation it was clear that there was a short circuit in the engine. Initiating the e-bay returns procedure, Plaza's communication and service were exceptional - the faulty Thomas was returned and a replacement arrived within a week. This one works perfectly, and is a very nicely detailed model of the original Thomas as seen in the books and the early TV series with a new face as seen in the CGI series. Annie and Clarabel are fairly basic but are two different bodies - Clarabel has a luggage/guard's compartment as described in the book Thomas the Tank Engine (Hornby and Bachmann in their 00/HO/Large Scale gauges use the same body for both coaches!) Despite the hiccup with the first Thomas, I'm very pleased and the Grandchildren will be delighted!Read full review

Bought this to wow my grandson. I wired it to run DCC. The engine compartment is a bit tight but I did it and the train runs just fine. It is very cute running around the track next to the bigger diesels on my N scale Layout. I wish that would make it DCC versus DC. Im sure the Japanese can figure out a way to make it simple and better than I did. I will probably purchase either JAMES or PERCY to complete the play.

I bought Thomas for my granddaughter. I didn't care if it ran well as long as it ran. So it was a pleasant surprise that ihe runs really well, at least on our layout. Every now and then the rod that connects the wheels seems to catch and stop the wheels. Spinning them by hand gets him to run again. Clara Belle and Anna are just bonuses.

Thomas engines are not the best quality when it comes to durability. If they run to long (as on our kid's layout) the motor will eventually over heat and short out. Dropping the engine is a no no.

I got this for my dad, who is a model train collector and enthusiast (in N scale). He loves it. It brings out the kid in him frequently.
