Background: I'm been a cyber golfer way back since the days of Microsoft Golf and Access Links LS series. I also own TW '03 for the Gamecube, though I play it on a Wii. I also play current Tiger Woods PGA Online. In fairness to EA, I will only compare TW '09 to Tiger Woods Online (TWO) and TW '06. The Good: Right out of the box Woods '09 shows it has come a long way since the series began way back when. Gone is the Rival Mode that plagued earlier versions. Gone is having to unlock courses. Gone is buying your way to skill increases. EA Sports finally took the game out of the arcade heavy creation into a more balanced golf simulation. You don't have to go through massive upgrades to your skills to get to a place where you can really enjoy playing the game. A much improved swing control system replaced the joystick swing control of the TW '06. Finally being in between clubs is a manageable task. There is also a swing control for people who are looking for more of a challenge which uses the L1 button. The click swing control is great for beginning players. The expanded number of included courses really makes the game a great value for the price. With the release of TW 10, the price of this version will only go down, making it an even greater value. Funny how TW '09 comes with more courses than its recent on line only counter part for the PC and Mac, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online (aka TWO). Unlike TW 10 and TW 11, this is a PS2 console game. While not being the latest and greatest does not appeal to some, the graphics and game play in this release are no slouch. The number of courses of TW '09 is also higher than the more recent versions that live of the PS3 and XBox - odd to say the least. The Bad: Inspite of all the great improvements and features of TW '09, one thing drags it down from a five star rating - lack of online multiplayer mode. Even the far older versions of Links LS, starting with 98, included online multiplayer mode which has become standard in just about every genre of games. Overview: A great effort by EA that seemed to forget the progress this game has when compared to newer releases. Since this is a console version, the PC version might be the way to go since it does include online multiplayer game modes. I have done some quick searching for TW 10 for the PC and have come up empty - which doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it just means I didn't look very hard for very long. TW '09 for the PC seems like the way to go, but if you are a console player, this version is worth a look if you don't mind playing alone.Read full review
I bought this game because I have enjoyed the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games from '05 on. The '09 game is somewhat different from the earlier versions. In particular, there are now 3 different golf swings that can be used, and adding power to your swing is done differently. It takes a while to get used to, but doesn't detract much from the game. Putting is harder in this version, but that just makes it more realistic. Most of the old courses are back with this version, along with a few new ones. All in all, I think this game is fun, and I'm glad I bought it.
The disc plays, the set-up is very complicated (even to adding freckles to the build/character choice), and there are both static and dynamic ways to play the game disc. Looks like it's going to be fun. THANKS.

My family and I love to play Tiger Woods Golf 2005 so I was thrilled to be able to purchase Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009. When the game arrived I immediately put the game in. It was hard to figure out where to go to set up a new player. The game does not feature familiar qualities like Tiger Vision (2005) or how to line your putting shot up. I guess it just takes some getting used to but I'm not real thrilled with it. I will post an update if we figure it out and are able to play it without getting frustrated.
