I first saw this movie when I was a child and I loved it. Still do. The photography and character engagement are fabulous. This is what a Disney movie should be! They don't make 'em like that today. Would have given it 5 stars but whoever restored this did a poor job. Color doesn't seem as good as I remember(not deep and sky seems to be washed out) and those annoying circles that appear in the upper right hand corner of the movie(I believe this is where there should be a "break" in the movie). This should have been cleaned up. All in all a great family orientated movie!

I did not get to watch all the movie because it was a defective disc. Always stopped throughout the movie. It did not appeal to me that much.

This film is often looked over in the Disney canon, though it should not be. It is, in my opinion, a true masterpiece of cinema. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Brian Keith, Vera Miles, Brandon DeWilde, Walter Brennan, Ed Wynn, Linda Evans and Tom Skerritt. The scenery is amazing thanks to on-location filming in New England. It is a moving film about a family living in the wilderness who struggle with change, among other things. They try to get by in a changing landscape by selling furs while at the same time trying to establish a sanctuary for migrating Canadian geese. This movie is a cinematic treasure and should be in anyone's film library. This is the only time it has been available on DVD [and either the second or only time it's been available to own on home video]. And with it being released on DVD in 2004 this is becoming harder and harder to find. Buy it and hopefully you too will see the greatness in this film that I do. "Those Calloways" are not to be missed!Read full review
Wonderful movie, heartwarming and a story that stirred emotions deep within regarding my love towards wild creatures, especially geese because they mate for life. I hate hunting season. We loved the awesome fall scenary and then the beautiful cabin in the snowy woods, a real "Norman Rockwell" setting. Was all around pretty wholesome movie for entire family. We showed it to our church friends who also loved this movie. The older generation appretiated seeing the actors who were popular in their days. Is a movie we'll certainly watch again and again...especially in the fall. Tks for making this classic movie available!
A quality family movie with ethics and morals, not the Disney of today.
