Saint Térèse of Lisieux is considered a Doctor of the Church because she has contributed profound theological writings. This movie fails to display the intelligence of this holy woman and instead makes her out to be a frivolous ingenue--however pious and capable of enduring suffering. The movie simply lacks the intellectual rigor that marks Terese an important Catholic saint. ... aside from this, however, the scene work and filming is of interest.
The simplicity and heart-felt nature of this film captures the true essence of the character’s beautiful soul. It gives a nice glimpse into her life, as well as Carmelite religious life in general. They don’t make many movies like these anymore.
