While many viewers have dinged the X-Files 5th season for being different than the preceding four seasons, it has to be different if you want to play out the internal mythology and keep growing, instead of just repeating the same themes endlessly. This does make for a certain "transitional" feeling, but the quality of the episodes is just as good as the previous seasons. The issue is really whether the viewer is willing to keep exploring the unknown with Mulder and Sculler, or whether they want to stay in the cozy familiarity of their own "backyard". This season also includes an episode showing how Mulder met the Lone Gunmen, an episode that is so good it almost makes the whole season worth the purchase price, even if you're not partial to vampires (1 episode) or adoption of alien hybrids (1 episode), and find Scullys antagonistic brother a bit annoying. Well worth the price!Read full review
Okay, as for gillian anderson and david duchovney (i miss him in the new series).. i really could not care what they were in.. they would look and do just fine, in my opinion lol. I LOVE the x-files. *looks over at my "I want to believe" poster on my office wall*. The new series featuring Doggit are okay , i like his partner.. but if they are trying to use those two to kinda replace scully and mulder.. it just is not working out at all. The story lines are great. Other than they find mulder, oh he is dead again, no wait they found him.. oh wait, he is working on a new movie - kill him off again lol
I never watched the X Files when it was on years ago, and I had heard that it really started to get wierd after the first couple of seasons... I am working my way through the series now and I've got to say, it's getting addictive. Obviously you can't have a blockbuster for every episode, but season 5 has a few...and the way it ends...WOW! Friggin awesome. It's not getting wierd, it's getting intense as the charactors continue to evolve. I'm not stopping now...no way! I give the series as a whole the highest reccomendation, but you've got to watch it from the beginning. Realize they throw you some curveballs and some humor along the way, but the journey has been excelent so far. I'm all jazzed tho watch the movie now(Fight The Future)...I'll probably see it in a completely different light this time.Read full review
