Barbra Streisand in her ultimate movie. Fine acting, great casting and a timeless story. Unmatched chemistry. Robert Redford and Barbra Steisand's beautiful, straightforward, heartfelt performance. No pretenses, no egos, just a great movie. Romance lives here🌹🌹🌹

The movie was a bore , it was a political and love story ,but it should have focused on one more closely , although i will admit that it painted a pretty shallow picture of the Hubbell character , for me something was missing it did not complete it's mission. but glad I didn't pay too much for it .

Barbra Streisand was never better than in this movie about a woman of strong political feelings (Katie Morovsky) who falls in love with a happy-go-lucky writer (Hubbell Gardner), who knows better about the ability to fight city hall. The contrast of characters is fabulous in this movie, where you want it all to work out for them. But there is just too much to overcome. The movie is full of sentimentality. You will never forget several scenes including Hubbell running in the college marathon, a telephone conversation between the two where he wants to break up with her, Hubbell and his best friend JJ (Bradford Dillman) in a sailboat discussing the "best of everything," and finally the scene at the end where Katie straightens out Hubbell's hair. If that is not enough to make this a memorable movie, the theme song, which won the Academy Award, is unforgettable. One of the best songs ever recorded! Barbra should also have won the Academy Award for this portrayal. She was edged out by Glenda Jackson in a movie that no one ever talks about. This DVD has a special feature interview with Barbara Streisand that expresses her disappointment about the editing of the scenes of this movie. In deleted scenes, we learn that Katie did not leave Hubbell because he had an affair with J J's wife, played bLois Chiles. No, she left him because her Communist political stands in the past would most certainly have hurt Hubbell's chances as a writer in Hollywood during this period. The producers deleted this scene because the movie faired better without those scenes among early audiences. How sad! Nevertheless, this movie will always be a classic in my book! I'll bet it is in yours too!Read full review
