I don't usually care for movies that are very serious in nature. This one is different. It is about a black family living in the early 1960's forced to face some very heated racist attitudes. Viewers are instantly drawn to the Watsons--and, as a white person, I am ashamed to admit that the white people here are not nearly as amiable. I don't want to ruin the ending here, but I will say that it is bittersweet but hopeful. I think this should be used in kids' history classes at school if that is allowed. The film is rated PG, but I don't think there is anything here that would be objectionable to most parents or grandparents who know what it was like to live in that era. Sadly, racism is still very much a part of our heritage. Maybe if we had more movies like this one, prejudice could finally be abolished.Read full review
