The Waterboy is a 1998 American comedy film directed by Frank Coraci. It stars Adam Sandler alongside Henry Winkler, Kathy Bates, Jerry Reed, and Fairuza Balk. Lynn Swann, Lawrence Taylor, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Cowher, Paul Wight (aka: The Big Show on WWE), and Rob Schneider have cameos. Sandler produced the movie and co-wrote the script with Tim Herlihy. The movie was extremely profitable, earning over $160 million in the United States alone and made Sandler a successful actor with The Waterboy becoming his second $100 million film in a year, along with The Wedding Singer. Sandler's character, Bobby Boucher (pronounced "Boo-SHAY"), bears a strong resemblance to his "The Excited Southerner" comedic skits from his album "What the Hell Happened to Me?" The portrayal is one of a stereotypical Cajun from the bayous of South Louisiana, not the typical stereotype of a Southerner. He also shares similarities in speech and mannerism to Canteen Boy, a recurring character, also portrayed by Adam Sandler, on Saturday Night Live.[1] Like Bobby, Canteen Boy preferred "purified water, right out of the old canteen", which he always carried with him.Read full review

My son who happens to be autistic has taken to Adam Sandler and loves any movie with him in it. I his father by default get to watch them (usually multiple times) and have grown to enjoy the silliness and ridiculousness of Adam's style of humor. Besides anything that that makes my son that happy is good with me. If you need some light hearted humor in your life give this movie a try.

This movie is funny if you're an Adam Sandler fan. Its cute because Adam Sandler plays a "mama's boy" who grew up out of touch from reality and EDUCATION. His mother sheltered him because she was scared he would grow up and leave her. He ends up on a local college football team and turns out that he can be a great player if he focuses on the bad things in his life that make him angry. He also falls in love on the way. Its a funny, feel good movie. Highly recommened if you like Adam Sandlers' humor. Its good addition to the collection if you collect his movies.
Adam plays a mentally challenged person, and goes for he wants most in the world, against all odds, and he gets it! No matter what others think! It's a really good movie.
