The War of Art contains many ideas on why artists find it so hard to move to completion and what to do about it. The author (Pressfield) cites many examples of why we don't do the work, and not quite as many examples of solutions. There is plenty of empty space at the bottom of most pages making the book longer than it needs to be. Perhaps Pressfield knows that in order to hold the attention of those who have a propensity to avoid starting a task, he or she must first divide the goal into smaller, doable chores. I did notice a feeling of accomplishment as I turned each page faster than if each page were full to the brim. Sneaky, ok I get it.

Oprah...darn her. I'm retired, feet up and relaxing. Why should I read a book and especially one on self-examination of one's life purpose. For me, that boat must have sailed years ago. Here again I've procrastinated, now late in the evening I'm reading Pressfield's book and unable to put it down until the last word and the early morning's light has come. When you have a Muse, a driving force (however you which to describe it) that beleaguers you, drives you and gives you no rest, what can you do? Give in. This certainly is unlike any motivational book I've EVER read. But it will change you profoundly and hopefully for the better. As it has me. A must read.
A perfect, unread copy of one of my favorite books, signed by the author for an amazing price. Thank you much!!

This book is not just for writers and artists, but for anyone and everyone who wonders why they hold themselves back from success; disallow self-compassion; and need to find the tools to break through disabling boundaries. Easy reading too, and small enough to carry in purse or fold up and put in pocket.

To be honest, I cannot stand the “self help” book genre. So, when this was recommend to me by friends, I was expecting it to be just as overly idealistic, and patronizing as other self help books that I have been talked in to reading. But I LOVE this book. It is full of valuable ways of thinking and behaving that truly help foster personal and artistic growth. Though I believe in this book, “art” is more of a metaphor, as the concepts in this book can be applied to many facets of life. If you are a reader that dislikes “self help” books, you NEED to check this one out. And if you are a reader that enjoys these types of books....well. You tried others, now try the best.
