This is a 5 star CD. It is remastered and the sounds are crisp, and sharp. The songs are written and co-produced by William "Smokey" Robinson, one of the best songwriters of all-time: most of them were already hits he sang with his incredible group, The Miracles. The style is uniquely The Temptations, unarguably the finest vocal harmony group of the time; and the arrangements are distinctly superior. Indeed, the best versions of the monster hits, “My Girl” and “The Way You Do The Things You Do” are on this album. Paul Williams, David Ruffin & Eddie Kendricks each deliver their leads with effortless perfection and spellbinding passion. Check out that the distinctive bass of Melvin Franklin in “You’ll Loose A Precious Love”, add the transcendent flow of Otis Williams, and you can hear why 27 of The Temptations of albums released from 1965 to 1975 charted No. 6 and higher. Even more impressive is that 17 of those were No. 1. This album, co-produced by Smokey, is the second of those 27 releases. Music lovers of every time and taste will never tire of these masterpieces. As someone noted, the only negative is that the dual picture cover, showing the singers, sleek and each over six feet tall, posed against the master poet Smoky, is not available in a wall poster.Read full review
I had this item in my record collection on vinyl when it first came out. I has "that sound" that takes me back to being in Junior High School and the house parties that were in abundance at the time. I remember that Smokey Robinson put some of these out himself before the Tempts were started and I appreciated the 5-part harmony and the richness that it brought to the old 50's sound of the original. I have a highly recommended CD - take this from an "oldies afficiando". (smile) jazyblk
