Stellar performances by the pair of great actors, and an incredible cameo appearance by Michael York. Franco Zeffirelli at his best. A great Shakespearian slapstick. Some feminists might misread it, they can write their complaints to the Bard.

Taylor and Burton, I thought it would be great acting even if the story was hockey. Wrong. Taylor wasn’t up to the standard of Richard Burton who of course brought his talent as a Shakespearean actor to this film even if at times he tried to rise to a comedic level that wasn’t comedic. Productions from this time were all sets and it looks just like that. Just expected more.

Totally loved the movie. It was so much fun to watch Dame Elizabeth Taylor just tear through her character. it was total fun. This was just one of the movies that Dame Elizabeth Taylor could act.

When people think of Shakespeare, they think of sleeping. While its true that reading Shakespeare can have this effect, watching it is a completely different story. The old English makes sense when combined with body language. That's just the simplest way to put it. Not only that, but Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were definitely born to play these roles. I haven't seen them in anything else, but I doubt that anything else could possibly live up to this movie. You just can't go wrong with it.
I remembered this movie from radio advertisements taped back in 1967 but had never seen it. I had always wondered what the movie was like. This is one of Shakespeare's lighter works and good for laughs, especially for fans of the author. Of course, Taylor and Burton are quite natural in their roles. Excellent period piece with over the top costumes, sets, and accents. Bonus features, such as the theatrical trailers, are a nice addition.
