I wanted to read some literature this year and The Stranger was recommended to me by my son who is an English major in college. It is a short investment of time - only 154 pages but well worth reading. The writing is smooth and expressive, even sensual; and I was very impressed that it was a French translation. The plot is very simple and easy to follow. It was interesting to read about how drifting through life can bring misfortune and how you can be judged by your actions intead of your actual intentions. Very good book!
I read that the song "killing an arab" by the group The Cure was actually about this book and not the controversial topic as people thought. The story is intersting and is portrays the main charachter as someone who goes through life with little feeling or emotion about anything good or bad, happy or sad. The setting is in Algieres in the 1940s. It is unusual and not like modern books. Definately worth reading.
A strange and wonderful and depressing read

It makes you think about your actions and the results of what you say and do, as actions reflect who you are. It is required reading for philosphy students and should be read by High school students who feel there are alone and abandoned as they will see the cosequences of the actions they make today and how it's reflected in the future.
I liked the book, but is kind of sad and confusing. Sad about he guy going along with no feelings, and confusing about the end.
