This book is Great. I owned and had read many of these Asimov science books, but I gave them away to a young student of science. Now I have reacquired almost all of them again. Isaac Asimov was brilliant at explaining the complexities of science in a way that anyone can understand. If you want to know about something but think it's over your head, read Asimov's books or articles on the subject and you will find out not only that you have learned something, but that YOU can learn ANYTHING if you take it one step at a time. This is what he was a master of. Oh yeah, he also wrote some science fiction stories too. Our Solar System is something everyone should learn about. By the way, because of new technology, astronomers have discovered that MOST stars have systems of planets around them--not just our own. The Late Dr. Asimov would not be surprised at this fact. Here's a wild thought: Why not send these science books to your Representatives in Congress! Some of them think that windmills cause global warming by slowing down the wind and thus not cooling the surface of the Earth enough. Others believe dinosaurs were drowned in a flood about 5000 years ago because they were told this many years ago as children. Yet others want you to believe that if toxic and flammable chemicals are injected into the ground at one place, and if tap water from a well a mile away catches fire when exposed to a flame, that the two events are completely unrelated. By the way, they don't think you have the need to know or even the right to know what they are injecting into the ground. Some of these Law School graduates who serve on the Congressional and Senate Science Subcommittees will tell you that scientists are lying when they say that ocean levels are rising despite the fact that the City of New Orleans was flooded in 2005 and the subways of New York City were flooded in 2012; Venice, Italy now floods every year. We even had a President of the United States who said that trees CAUSE air pollution. (No, it was not the current President--a law school graduate and a Harvard Law School Professor with a logical mind and some common sense.) I could go on and on. My point is: learn science and do the math, or else let someone else do your thinking and make your decisions for you. It's not boring and our existence depends on it. Physical laws do not change with regard to any human being's or any number of humanity's degree of belief in them or their acceptance by any current political regime or social organization or movement. Argue with a physical law and you WILL lose. Learn them and cooperate with them and one another, and you might survive and prosper. Isaac Asimov, you are surely missed, but your legacy of explaining our universe without dumbing it down remains. Thank you, Isaac, and you, gentle reader.Read full review
