Alright, I admit it . . . I am a smoked food junky. How I could have gone 50 years without a smoker amazes me now. Hot smoking mostly, but after I found videos on how to make a cold smoker I discovered another smokey world to explore. So, when I stumbled on the "Smoked Foods Cookbook" in hardback it seemed like quite the deal. After all, preparing all manner or meats, nuts and cheeses with smoke was exactly what I had in mind. The photo on the front cover sealed it. Bear in mind, I already know how to cook. From my perspective the book was largely a disappointment. First thing . . . I did not pick up that the title includes the word cheese, and not cheeses. This is because there is not a section on cheese - and I have yet to find a recipe. The book is about meat . . . well not so much as there is not a recipe for bacon. Alright, so what is the book about. There is some decent introductory material, there is some interesting idea type stuff for the bold experimenter. There are some recipes for game. Perhaps this is what you were looking for? I wanted to find out about smoking seasonings, bacon and lunch-meats, cheeses and nuts. Hoping for some ideas about smoking things that I had not yet mastered like fruits, sauces, cheese etc. The book is OK for limited use, but the title and illustration would lead you to believe that it is an encyclopedic cookbook which it is not. For 6$ bucks including shipping from a charity seller I cannot complain about my own purchase. If I was to pay full retail that would be a different story. My suggestion, search around a little more unless you want to learn how to smoke elk (I would love to, but first you need an elk to kick things off).Read full review
This is the best smoked foods cookbook I've ever had if you're wondering what to make for dinner and you have a day to plan. Pick a recipe out of the book and go for it I've smoked everything from ham turkey oysters even shrimp on these recipes I will admit I have not tried to smoke squirrel but every recipe has come out delicious even for a kid you know it's good when a kid asks for seconds

I would highly recommend this book anyone else that is interested in purchasing it. Within a couple days of receiving it several of the recipes were immediately put to use.
I bought this as a gift for our nephew. He seems to enjoy it, so all is good.It seems to have some great recipes that will work quite well in his new smoker.
