As a woman struggling with menopause, and I am also a Registered Nurse, this has been a confusing, frustrating, at times frightening road. I would not be responsible if I do not add that not all females struggle with this time in our lives. Each woman in unique, as is her experience. Maybe this is why those of us who's symptoms are in the extreme, have such a difficult time finding treatment, because it varies from woman to woman. I am adopted, so can not draw from my mothers experience, also, because I do not know my medical history, do not want to take synthetic hormones. This book has given me information so that i can be proactive in my care, which is what we all need to make informed health care decisions, saves time and money, because all physicians do not understand, or subscribe to this kind of treatment. Thereby, helping me to hone in on where it is i need to go, the kinds of questions i should be asking. Clinically, also gives great information, from the phycians, etc., that is correct, Ms. Sommers is very informed herself. I also read her book 'Ageless' and between the two have gained a lot of insight in to what is happening to me. 44 years old, hysterectomy in 2005. I am currently awaiting my first appointment with physcian.Read full review
I received this book a few years ago as a gift. While reading it I realized my symptoms were mirroring Suzanne's. I found myself a doctor who prescribes bio-identical hormones and it has changed my life! Everything Susanne wrote in the book happened; my mood improved dramatically, my sex life now rocks, my body "found itself" as it took it's natural shape and a few remaining pounds were shed, my complexion and hair improved, my energy level is now through the roof, and on and on. Hormones ARE very powerful and they can make you feel like hell or lift you to better heights. An excellent must read for ALL women, not just grandmothers. I was 39 when I noticed a drastic change in myself and realized, after reading her book, that I was in perimenopause. This book will change your life too. Go Suzanne!Read full review
A fast and easy read, informative and very easy to understand. Not only did Suzanne Somers bring to light the much needed infor on bioidentical hormone replacement therapy designed to combat the symptoms of menopause. She made it so easy to understand from a patients point of view. She wrote about the advantages and the disadvantages of bioidenticals, although much fewer of the latter. She also touched on little known andropause, which is more commonly known as male menopause. So the book was informative for men as well as women.A must read for those of us that suffer from menopause. This book will change your life.
I like the book, many of us wemon might go through allot of pain, discomfort and other things and sometimes we don't have to, we judt think oh this must be a part of getting older, when we might just need to have a good cheek up by the right Dr. and know what to ask for and get on natural hormones that aren;t harmful. I got the book because I am 41, have had a complete hysterectomy and have herd that my hormones may be harmful. I have started to gain some weight and have no sex drive and I want to stay fit and keep my husband happy, I plan to have my Dr. cheek my levels and see about getting on natural hormones.
I first borrowed this book from the library and was so impressed with S.S.'s right-on description of this aging life. I had to buy one for my own library and one for my incredible daughter-in-law. This is a must read for every woman over 30! Bio-identical hormones are THE ONLY way to go! I have been on them for years and have never had a hot flash or mood swings. All of her books are good but I found this one of the best, most inspiring and encouraging conversations I've ever had with another woman! Thanks, Suzanne.
