I bought this book on a whim because a family member may have prostate cancer-- and still may not, he is still going through tests, but we pray it is nothing. This book has been pretty insightful. From Fiber intake, Calcium intake, Vitamin D intake, stress levels, and exercise. This covers a wide range of information that potentially can elevate your risk levels of getting prostate cancer. I bought this book, and another book- that has not come yet but I will be writing a review on that one as well, this book I bought fairly cheap. Charts are a few years behind. But I found it incredibly fascinating that sugar, starch and enriched flours break down very quickly and give rise to elevations in blood sugar levels. Which in return raise you insulin levels. The book further states that insulin is a growth factor and it may influence the risk of prostate and other cancers. In essence the insulin gives the cancer cells lots of extra fuel to grow. The book has many charts showing what foods are good to eat and what food should be eatin moderatly because they have a high glycemic level (these charts are shown as high levels, moderate levels, and low levels). Some foods that you wouldn't have thought twice about are on these lists. Book further stated that tomatoes are very good for you because they contain lycopene. All in all this has been an informative book and I am glad that I bought it for the knowledge it contains. If prostate cancer runs in your family it is something to think about looking into eating better and cancer fighting foods- I have only skimmed most of this book but there is plenty more to get into.Read full review
