I read The Problem of Pain when I first became a Christian. Though it’s been many years since then, I remember loving it and wanting to reread it and add it to my collection of C S Lewis books.

As I indicated in the title review, Mr. Lewis covers deep areas of theology and the human condition. His intelligence allows him to bring high and obscure realities down to the level of the average reader. But make no mistake, these are complex truths he is revealing to us. Most of all I appreciate the humility that shines forth from the author's writing. He never assumes we know what he is presenting. But rather he uses simple comparisons to clarify his teaching: i.e."A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word 'darkness' on the walls of his cell." pp 46 I believe it is safe to say that C.S. Lewis is teaching as he writes because he was always a dedicated educator. Even though the subject of the book covers ideas that are hardly everyday conversation, I wanted to keep reading to satisfy the interest he creates. I think it is necessary to own this title because one reading is too superficial to be worthwhile. This is among the group of books we keep to reread again and again. And, yes, each reread will benefit us with new enlightenment. Please don't take my word for how wonderful this "The Problem of Pain" by C.S Lewis is. Mine is an amateur review; prove me wrong by reading and reviewing this yourself and we can all benefit from your superior ability.Read full review
