While this book does give one wonderful pictures and great decorating ideas, I found the title quite misleading. The author's idea of a "flea market budget" and mine are quite different. I am almost sure that most readers are thinking in the a few dollars here and there range, the author is more in the few hundred dollar or more range. If I had the authors budget I wouldn't need to shop at flea markets for my core decorating pieces. I have totally redecorated an entire room in my home for less than the author spent on one or two items and receive many compliments. The rooms that are shown in this book are beautiful and the inspirations are wonderful, but I feel they are quite a bit more expensive than most readers could afford in todays world.
What Claudia and her friends do to small apartments they worked with is brilliant and you gotta love NYC for it amazing treasure hunts... Lots of wall and texture techniques, furniture painting, Upholstery & Re-upholstery, fabrics, window treatments, how to spot a good bargain that might need a bit of repair and lots of great advice. I doubt there ever be another written this well. Lots of photos and ideas that you instantly start to think about in your own place .....After reading this before you know it you'll be living in Paris Style ........Read full review
I bought the book as soon as I saw it in a book store .It seem to be calling to me because a a dream I had two days before. The book is full of rich , vibrant colors, sumptuous , luxurious fabrrics. It also has a aray for soft seductive lights glowing from a delicate chandeliers. You could see the history in the brilliantly painted walls , abundantly flowing draperies , beautifully upholstered chairs , and exquisitely crafted vanities and tables that are hallmarked . If you have a desire to live , remake or dream of a beautiful Parisian home just like me. Claudia Strasser put out this book exspecially for you in mind !
Although Stasser uses the common decorating elements, the photos shown reflect a very "dated" approach to a Paris apartment. Very 1980's sadly. It really appears to be more of an American-take on decorating/imitating design than a true Parisian-feel. Bottom line - not worth the time, money, or effort to order and read it.
Wonderful book!~ Better than expected. I would for sure recommend this book. Lots of pictures and information.
