I saw an ad for this book through Prevention Magazine and had to have it. I should have sent in the card to Prevention because they had a money back guarantee. But I figured, what's not to like? It sounded absolutely fabulous. I did a buy-it-NOW on eBay. It was written in a friendly, supportive tone. Although I'm an avid reader, I found it hard to get through. Honestly, I didn't understand it. A lot of technical stuff. I thought the main concept would sink in, so I read the whole thing...but apparently it didn't because following what I thought I read to do, I gained 10 pounds in two months. Obviously I'm very confused... I don't think this diet is a 'concept' diet. I think you have to DO THE MATH and do it every meal/every day, OR ELSE! The book is okay, the diet seems reasonable, maybe it's just me that is flawed because of my weakness in math and science. I highly recommend this diet book to, maybe...a biologist or other science major.Read full review
Excellent information. A quick and easy book to see what foods are best for someone with low blood sugar. The back of the book has a wonderful guide on the everyday foods we eat that are helpful in maintaining a blood sugar level that is healthy. Easily to understand, and the knowledge is very helpful. Understanding low blood sugar is sometimes difficult, and with The New Glucose Revolution Book it makes life a lot easier on how to eat and live a normal life. This book has clearly helped me to answer questions that I had. Before I had no answers, after I purchased this book my qustions are now answered.
The book has information and a new approach to managing food and nutrition problems that diabetics face on a daily basis. Have learned a lot of helpful tips and facts about food that I never knew. I would recommend this book to the newly diagnosed diabetic, I found it to be helpful for me, easy to understand and it gave me a starting point as to what I should & should not eat to get the best results with my blood sugar & diabetic issues under control, regulated, to receive the best results & hopefully avoid the "blood sugar rollercoaster" that can be experienced by even the most dedicated diabetic trying hard to do all the right things for their disease.
DON'T spend your money buying this from Prevention! I bought a used copy - most of the rated foods are NOT American! And, some simple things like asparagus have never been rated for GDI. The book has some good ideas and may be helpful for folks with diabetes (the original target audience) or who travel to foreign ports; but, seems to be of little use to those of us in the USA except for oatmeal, crackers, or breads. If you really want to check it out, try your local library for GDI first - then buy a used copy if you really want to have one!
THIS BOOK IS REALLY EASY TO UNDERSTAND. IT IS LAID OUT IN A VERY SENSIBLE FASHION, EXPLAINING WHAT THE GLUCOSE INDEX IS ALL ABOUT, HOW IT WORKS AND WHY IT WORKS. THEN THE NEXT SECTION COVERS SPECIFICS- LOSING WEIGHT, PREVENTING DIABETES, ETC. RECIPES AND MEALS PLANS ARE INCLUDED, AS WELL AS THE GI VALUE OF MOST FOODS. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT HOW TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF YOUR BODY, AND WHAT TO FEED IT, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
