Doctorow is one of the authors I cannot quite make my mind up about. I didn't like Ragtime, for instance. But The March was excellent, and I don't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is interested in the Civil War period. It maybe could have been a little faster moving in places, but the characters are very real.
I loved this book. Although it's a novel, it's well written and the author has used actual facts and tied it together well. It was one of the selections our book club picked and most agreed with me. If you are into Civil War novels this is a must read.
I bought The March because I am in a book group that is reading it. We have not discussed it yet, so I shall give a brief personal review of it. It is certainly a page turner and well worth reading. I got a little tired of sloshing through South Carolina and tying up all the loose ends in North Carolina so that Doctorow could end the book. However, the march through Georgia was really something!

I like civil war history the writers characters were great. well written. I would recomend this book to anyone that loves history and a great story.
