After seeing a few episodes online, I decided on a whim to buy the whole series. Due to the high price of such a collection, I was somewhat nervous at first...Afterall, perhaps the episodes I'd already seen were the "cream of the crop." Fortunately, when the collection arrived, I was not disappointed. I am almost halfway through the series, and I've yet to come across an episode that hasn't been enjoyable. Some of the reviews I've read give all the accolades to the first season, and dismiss the final three seasons as too "campy," but though the second season does get a bit sillier than the first, I find it every bit as enjoyable as the first. The bonus features on the discs have been very interesting as well. I especially like the segment about the props that are in a collection known as the Spy-Fi Archives. The inclusion of the unaired pilot, "Solo," and one of the feature films created from a two part episode and shown only outside of the USA is a high point for the collection as well. The overall quality of the episodes is pretty good. Though there is the occasional spot on the film or something like that, the sound and picture are good for a show its age. My only complaints with the product are not about the content but about the packaging. Some of the discs are very hard to remove from the cases, while others fall out too easily. I also believe it would have been nice (especially considering the price) if the attache case packaging had been made out of something a bit more substantial than cardboard. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.Read full review
This is what TV no longer understands. We do not always need to see the grisly details. I like NCIS and CSI, but enough of the blood and guts already. Return to a time when there were gunfights but you did not need to see blood gushing. And to a time when a pretty girl did not need to show everything to be sexy. A little double meaning goes a long way, and Man from Uncle delivers on that score. David McCallum (same guy as Ducky on NCIS, albeit 50 years younger), Robert Vaughn, and Leo G. Carroll are wonderful. And the list of guest stars always brings a smile to my face. You want sexy? See Sharon Tate in season 1. You want intrigue, Seasons 1 and 2 deliver. You want tongue in cheek humor, see Sonny and Cher in Season 3. This is just a blast. I am through aobut 3/4 of Season 3 and when I am finished with Season 4 I will probably start over again. Iwas in my teens when Man From Uncle originally aired and while I did not see every episode then, this is terrific, seeing all of them. I wish they had included Girl From Uncle also. I know that show got panned by the critics, but I liked it then and would enjoy it now. This is one of my best purchases of TV DVD ever. Now, if they would just release Maverick!!!Read full review
From the moment I heard Napoleon Solo say "Open channel D" into a pack of cigarettes, I was instantly transformed into being 8 years old again. This series is bringing back a lot of memories but even if you have no memory of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., as long as you like early James Bond stories this is a great series for you. It's a classic 1964 cold war spy series that is full of those James Bond era gadgets. You'll also be surprised at how many well known actors of today were on this show (Carroll O’Connor, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, etc.). Sometimes you go back and watch old TV series and they are not as good as you remembered them but not this one. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. has fulfilled all of my expectations and it's just as I remembered it. I highly recommend it.
This is what an old timer like me likes. I missed a few of my favorite show episodes due to other events and school activities. Well cold weathers coming and I now have the total four seasons of UNCLE. On a Cold day with a warm drink I'll just set back and enjoy a time gone by, TV action of the 1960's. I checked a few of the DVD's out for picture quality and was amazed. There very clear and with todays TV's and DVD players the sound is perfect. Not like the old days of TV antenna's. I checked out some of the extra information given with the set and it to is great for an UNCLE fan to know some of the behind the scene facts. If your a James Bond spy buff then this is an extra plus of material to add to your collection. These programs were gadget filled and went with the time when spy programs were the talk of the town. Oh yea the brief case the set comes in is neat.Read full review
