"It's one of the few magazine-publishing texts that I've used in academia that also is beneficial to magazine-industry professionals. While the entire new edition remains an excellent tool, I think the authors' discussion of digital publishing, tablets and apps makes it especially current and significant, and the presentation of profitability tables and spreadsheets is also an important addition. The Magazine: From Cover to Cover is a special publication."- Frank Dexter Brown, editor-at-large, Prince George's Suite magazine, and the founding editor of YSB magazine, has taught for more than 20 years. He operates a media-consulting business in Washington, DC. "In terms of scope and depth, no other textbook can hold a candle to The Magazine from Cover to Cover. The authors accurately and vividly describe how the industry is evolving in the digital age. It's the only book I'd recommend for a course on contemporary magazine publishing."-Jennifer Rauch, Long Island University"If you are looking for a text that covers the magazine industry from start to finish, top to bottom, this is it."-Ana Garner, Marquette University, "It's one of the few magazine-publishing texts that I've used in academia that also is beneficial to magazine-industry professionals. The Magazine from Cover to Cover expertly illuminates the magazine's past, present, and future."-Allison Leopold, Fashion Institute of Technology, State University of New York "In terms of scope and depth, no other textbook can hold a candle to The Magazine from Cover to Cover. The difficulty is that the magazine industry moves so quickly the images and some of the text becomes dated. The other books I've used just aren't as full or comprehensive. My students report that in their four years of journalism school, they have never had this kind of textbook - one that provides such a deep and comprehensivelook at the industry. In class the other day, one student said she doesn't plan to sell the book back but will keep it as a reference. That's evidence to me that for some dedicated students, this book is helpful and needed." - John Fennell, University of Missouri (10 - will adopt new edition)"This book offers a very detailed look at how magazines were launched in the past and how they are launched in the digital age. It covers everything from per-page costs to idea generation. If it has a weakness (and I'm not sure this can be overcome) it is that it does not anticipate the dawning of the iPad age and how that might change magazine production and presentation. In that regard, I wonder if the book will need to be updated very soon. I like theformat. The screened boxes that highlight the development of particular magazines are very useful. The overall design is clean and airy. It makes the book easy to digest. This book is a great primer for anyone teaching students about the launch and development of a print magazine. I would recommend thepublication of a new edition if the changes I have suggested were incorporated. If [that is the case], I would assign this text." - Charles Whitaker, Northwestern University (7 - will consider adopting)
