I recently changed jobs and need a new wardrobe. I had to start with the basics and build, and this book shows you the essentials and the extras you can add to make it complete. Tells you how to buy things that will go from season to season, and will mix and match with your other pieces to take you from day to night with just a change of accessories. It sounds like the basics everyone should know, but seeing the photos really helped me visualize building my wardrobe, and there are LOTS of photos. It covers every style and taste imaginable and has me off to a great start. It also shows some "don'ts" as well as the "do"s. I purchased another style book that only showed celebrities (skinny celebrities) wearing their designer clothes and accessories which was no help to me at all. In comparison, this book is much more real life and down to earth. The only negative things I would say is that I am a little older and found many of the styles too young for me, and I am also a little fluffy, and most of the photos and styles were shown as being on much thinner frames (not model skinny, but average). You still need to shop for your style and taste, but now you'll have a few ideas to expand your wardrobe, especially if you're on a budget.Read full review
I recently purchased the Lucky Shopping Manual. I have a degree in textiles and merchandising and love to get books that have anything to do with the industry. While the book is a few years old the information in it still applies today and will apply for years to come so it is a benefit to your collection or for those looking for rules and tips on what to wear, how to wear a garment, and what to mix and match the garment or accessory with (along with these rules and tips there are tips to dress your shape and figure now matter what size you are). Not only does the book give guidance on what to wear and how to wear it it also dispells many fashion misconceptions and gives tips on how to build a sustainable wardrobe with classic and fun pieces that fit your style, and personality. Overall a great buy!Read full review
I decided that The Lucky Shopping Manual was a must-have for me about four years ago. However, priced at $30 in bookstores everywhere, I was having a hard time forking over the cash. After all, you can't WEAR the book! After purchasing the manual on eBay, I was thrilled to find it in my mailbox. I read it cover-to-cover immediately. My first impression was not a great one - with pictures and images taking up all of the book, I didn't expect much helpful advice. Once I started reading carefully, it was a different story. The Lucky Shopping Manual is perfect for any self proclaimed fashionista. Actually, it's perfect for anyone who loves shopping, clothes, shoes, and accessories (whether or not you're into high fashion and labels). The book is divided into main categories: different types of pants, different types of tops, underwear, swimwear, shoes, and handbags. Within each category is a fit guide for each body type, along with a "wear it in winter, wear it in summer" suggestion. There are also lists of how many of each type of item you should own, and ideas on how to grow your clothing collection. Overall, it's an extremely helpful and informative book. It can be used for shopping advice or as a guide for those of us just entering our "adult" fashion stage. I'm extremely pleased with it, and it was even better than I had anticipated. I'm definitely going to take it shopping with me - or at the very least, let it help me do my shopping online!Read full review
I absolutely ADORE this book. The tips in this book are perfect for women in their 20's and above. The style is very tailored, conservative and above all, classy. I work in a corporate environment, so the styles in this book suit me pefectly. It gives me so many helpful hints on how to buy the right clothes for my body shape and it answers a lot of questions, some I never realized I had! Each page is filled with a plethora of chic and trendy clothes that will never go out of style. That is one of the main reasons I like this book. It actually shows pictures of the clothes, rather than just describing them vaguely like most books do. That way, I can link what I'm buying in the store to what's in the book. It even shows you exactly what to pack for a 3 day trip! Lastly, I find that there are NO other style books out there that even come close to this book. I saw this book at Barnes and Noble once and never forgot about it, but it was 30 bucks there and here on Half I got it for only about $7.50! I LOVE THIS BOOK!!Read full review
This book is like a "look book" it has lots of pictures and advice about style. It does not make distinctions based on body type, hight, or other features, but instead the advice given is more general, but equally flattering for most body types. I like the book, although is from 2003, many of the looks featured inside are timeless, and still work well today.
