The Little Red Hen is a classic story that can teach a child the concept of "all hands on deck." When the main character circulates through her "community" of farm friends and finds no help to cut the wheat, grind the grain, bake the bread, etc., she makes a decision on who is going to enjoy that delicious bread after its baked. With no help offered during the preparation of the bread, she decides no invitations will be handed out to eat the bread afterwards. We all know the ending of the story. She sits down and enjoys her hard work all by herself. This message can be a lesson to children in two ways; it's always best to share your abundance, but also that lending a helping hand will have its rewards in the good feeling we get when we help a friend. I am a collector of Little Golden Books and made this purchase to not only enjoy the classic story, but to own a new collector's edition.Read full review

The lesson to be learned from ‘ The Little Red Hen’ is valuable. He always lets others take advantage of his labors and expenses. Whenever it’s time to eat the beef everyone says “I do”. He read the book, framed it and hung it in his kitchen.

This is a wonderful story about self-reliance and it's well illustrated. I bought one and sent it to my sister and they had one whole dinner discussing its content. I liked it when I was little and I just had to have one.
