I am a big fan of Paula Deen! I am in the process of collecting all of her cookbooks. My most recent purchase is the Lady & Sons Too! Once again, this is a cookbook by Paula Deen that actually gets used and doesn't just sit alone in a cupboard collecting dust! This cookbook includes appetizers, soups & salads, main courses, vegetables and side dishes, breads, recipes from Paula's peers and the most important...dessert! These recipes are actual recipes that Paula uses and loves and we are fortunate that she is sharing these with all of us! The recipes are easy to follow and delicious! No fancy frills and shmills with ingredients you can't even pronounce. Good home cooking and nice size portions too for that hearty appetite. Most recipes have a little story that Paula shares with us. I felt very connected to Paula after reading the short little story she provides and it really gave me insight on the inspiration for that particular recipe. Plus it makes for interesting and fun reading! Paula also has a couple of pages on Helpful Hints! Little tidbits from how to sanitize properly to substituting certain ingredients if you don't have a particular ingredient on hand to removing grease from your clothes!!! This is a cookbook by Paula Deen you sure can't pass up! You won't be disappointed. What a perfect gift for yourself or a friend!!!Read full review
There is no one who puts out more love and "good dishes" than Paula Dean and family from Savanna, GA. Here television shows on the food network continuously show a simple, straight forward approach to cooking which is perfect for those of us who don't have cupboards full of exotic ingredients. I was able to get most of Paula's current books by doing a search on her name on EBAY-bylooking at when things closed and the shipping costs I saved money over the other online sources. These are the perfect starter books for a new bride a son with his first apartment or just someone looking for comfort food cookbooks-meatloaf, mac and cheese, salads and desserts-they're all here. From appetizers with a Southern Flair, through how to do easy but tasty and moist seafood, all sorts of meats and poultry, soups casseroles-it's like having your grandmothers recipe cards passed down to you. Start with the LADY AND SONS and the LADY AND SONS TOO-after those you'll be hooked. Paula's life reads like a novel as well-she is an inspiration to us all-great for cookbook lovers and collectors and those who need some help in the kitchen. ENJOY!Read full review
The cookbooks haven't arrived, just bought them yesterday, but I used to have The Lady and Sons and The Lady and Sons Too that I got from QVC and had the pleasure and honor of being 'live on the air' with Paula twice when I bought those 2 books. I can't wait till all 6 cookbooks arrive, I love to cook and I'm Southern and I am always open to recipes from a fellow Southerner. Paula is a very sweet and caring person, she came up the hard way, same as I did, and like me, she worked hard to get to where she is now. It is truly a sin that someone chose to try to make money off her, someone who obviously hasn't paid their dues like Paula and me. Unfortunately it seems to be the way of the world now a days, and it is truly sad. All I can say is that each and every one of us is responsible for our own actions. Each of us will be judged alone on Judgment Day, none of our friends, dudes, or homeys will be there to share our Eternal Fate, meaning if we go Up or Down, we go there and our friends, dudes, and homeys will go their way when their time comes. I hope you can see that I have unconditional Love for Paula and all the hard work she and her sons Jamie and Bobby have done to make the best of their lives and to share their love of cooking and their love for people by sharing their knowledge and experience with the rest of us. If you don't agree with me that Paula has worked hard and therefore become successful, please go to a mirror and take a long hard look at yourself and ask yourself if you have worked as hard as Paula and if not, ask yourself why, and then perhaps you will understand why you are in the shape you're in. Ask yourself what you're good at doing, what you like doing that your friends like. You never know, you might just start doing something like Paula did when she started selling bag lunches and was known as the Bag Lady. Look at her now, she came from being at the point of being homeless to a world reknowned cook and business woman and has become a household word even before the recent unpleasant publicity. She is a wonderful woman, she worked hard and raised two sons who are every mother's dream, and it is more than obvious, Jamie and Bobby adore their mother, she is every kid's dream for a Mom. I just wish that I was her son too!!!Read full review
THE LADY & SONS, TOO! is one of Paula Deen's earliest cookbooks. A diamond's value of delicious recipes wrapped up in a primitive spiral-bound cover. Who cares? I am thrilled to have a copy of ANYTHING the woman has ever written! Two more to go and I believe I have them all! (The very first one she published herself, The Lady and Her Friends) is going for over $1000 each if one ever shows up on ebay these days) I grabbed this cookbook the other evening from my countertop for the Grouper Fromage. Sounds a little frightening? Nah, this topping could go on any fish and it is out-of-this-world. You could serve it to visiting diplomats and dignitaries as well as laundromates and secretaries! GEEZ, I should have been a writer! The pleasure was all mine when Paula Deen came close to Cincinnati to a small town called Lebanon, Ohio, for a book signing and graced my vision with a meeting and a book signing. There I stood before her in a BIG BIRD COSTUME looking like a fool with my arms outstretched. Actually, yellow scrubs and a white lab coat. Her beaux, Captain Michael-gets-to-eat-like-a-king was there as well and he seemed like a sweetheart, southern genteelman. After reading, "It Ain't All About the Cookin'," I'm so happy Paula found herself a good man. Good heavens, is he lucky to find her or what? She is so funny, talented, personable, caring and loving mom, and one of the hardest working women around!!! By the way, she is BEAUTIFUL in person...yes she is pretty on television, but she is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL in person. Michael, you little harbor hellion, how'd you net that? Well anyhoo, grab yourself a copy and consider yourself fortunate to have your kitchen blessed with the Angel of the South and a bit of her magic food wand. Cheers, Pam ZahoraRead full review
This is Paula Deen's first cookbook. It is great! She wrote it to support herself and two small sons. Those two sons, are now grown and work with their mother at the "The Lady and Sons Restaurant" in Savannah, GA, have turned out to be great cooks thenselves. The recipes are easy to follow, you would probably have most of the ingredients on hand. The book is really a great book to read. I read the book first before, I trying a recipe. This cookbook is highly recommended to first time cooks, as well, as one's with more experience. It would make a great gift, as would any of the Paula Deen Cookbooks.
