Adult theme...how a serial killer was created. Sex scenes and beatings along with murder. Set in 1930's Rural Texas. Simon Baker has a small role as a detective. Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba and the other actors did a good job. Unsettling to think that there are probably people like the main character out there somewhere.

I'm a big Jessica Alba fan and I'm not a big fan of Casey Affleck. But both are very good in this movie. The movie is based in Texas in the 50s. Casey Affleck plays a deputy sheriff who isn't quite honest but not a bad guy. He gets involved with a hooker, falls in love with her and then has to kill her. Then he has killed a bunch of other people to cover up the murder of the hooker. It's a very good story taken from a book by author Jim Thompson. I never read the book but after watching and liking the movie I will probably read it. The acting in the story are very good and I highly recommend this movie. It is very much worth the money.

This film is very disturbing and certainly not for everyone. However, it probubly depicts the most accurate portrayal of a Serial Killer in a movie I have ever seen! I normally don't watch this type of video, but it educated me on perhaps how a serial killer might think and act. How you might not ever think that the person you know or live next door to could commit such horrific acts. Casey Affleck was absolutely mesmermizing in this role and took a certain departure from his other roles in film. I gained an insight into the mind of a killer. Again, I don't recommend this film for everyone.
I purchased this movie because I greatly enjoyed the book upon which this movie was based. The point of view of the main character was a completely new insight for me, that there were people looking to die and looking for their killer. It was a chilling thought that perhaps Stephen Crane was writing about in "Finding a Victim". I thought it would be interesting to see how they could bring a subtle, complicated, frightening and overly violent novel such as this to the screen and the wonder is that, for the most part, they succeeded. The movie misses some of the essential background and motivation for Deputy Ford's descent into serial killing but otherwise the rest of the book is mainly intact. The settings and costumes and atmosphere are all believable . The acting is first rate throughout This is an extremely violent and grim movie but it is after all, based upon a raher violent and grim book. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't read the book and who isn't somewhat prepared for the horror to come. I can understand how some people could find this film repugnant yet it is an excellent film based upon one of our finest Noir novels. If Noir at it's most brutal appeals to you then you should watch this film. This hasn't the laughable, absurd horror of a teen slasher movie. This film's violence is all too real .Read full review
