The Jane Austen Book Club made for a great book! I would actually give it 4.5 stars, but that isn't an option. This book follows the lives of six characters that come together monthly to discuss a novel by Jane Austen. There are always parallels to the character in the book and the character in the Austen novel that they chose to host at their house, providing an interesting plotline for Austen fans. However, I, having read no Austen whatsoever, still found the book very interesting. It is a rather quick read and is, in my opinion, a god use of your time, money, and energy. I would definately recommend it to you, especially if you like the Modern Literature type of books. If anyone out there decides to read the book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Best wishes and happy reading!!
lI have been a Jane Austen fan for years and I love the follow up books created by other writers.

I bought the book for book club. The book is not as good as I was expecting. There is no plot; there are too many characters and too much going on. However, I must admit I have not read any Jane Austen books so that may make a difference.
This book was OK if you're a Jane Austen Fan as I am. I was a little dissapointed as I thought there was a lot more that could have been done with the subject matter. I too am amazed that this was a New York Times Bestseller. It only confirms my opinion that you should never believe anyone else's reviews, if you really want to know what it's like, read it. It's a pretty short book.
Poor Jane Austen would be rolling over in her grave if she had lived to read this book. I cannot understand how it got good reviews. These characters supposedly meet to discuss the Austen novels. They hardly mention her books at all. Don't waste your time reading this boring book. Read the original Jane Austen masterpieces instead.
