I purchased the book primarily for the recipes for Baker's "tonics". Much of the other information is outdated however, such as "painting" or "sealing" wounds after removing branches from trees -- which has not been recommended for quite a few years now. Also, the book is pretty worthless to us far north gardeners because, like most garden books marketed nationally, none of the advice mentions, or is tailored to, the different climate zones. Generalized information about gardening that does not include individualized info for Zone 3 is useless. I would not have purchased this book if I had been physically able to page through it prior to buying and I don't recommend it. I'm glad I only bought a cheap used copy, but it's still debatable if it was worth even that.
I am an old fan of the Master Gardener Jerry Baker. I am delighted to have found the books that I purchased, and in such fine condition. They are to replace the copies that I purchased years ago through the mail and at K-Mart Garden Center, which have been lost during moves. These are essential to anyone wishing to create a yard and garden paradise, and to save time, money and frustration.
I had hoped to see much more information on vegtable gardening. Soil, how to plant, etc. and was disappointed that there really was not much information on this topic.
Very very old book, however, the recipes for your lawn are worth the price themselves. This book borders on "vintage" with browning edges of pages. Fun to read and valuable for my Florida lawn. Easily worth the price.
The information he talks about is very informative and they do work.We bought the book to save money on doing things around the yard and garden and to see if his idea's would work and they do.
