I LOVE this book. I enjoyed it so much that I had to buy all the other books by Laurie Notaro. This is her first and it is my favorite. I found out I was an idiot girl and that is ok! Notaro's twist on everyday happenings in her life will make you laugh out loud (I admit to scaring the dogs a few times). I think the author is a modern day, albeit childless, Erma Bombeck. If you're looking for an engaging book that can make you shoot milk out your nose because you're still reading the book at dinner and laughing, this is it. You might also be like me, and find out you are not alone and there is even a club just for you!
Laurie Notaro's first book (I think this is her first book) is really hysterically funny. A quick read, I finished it in a few hours. She writes of details we mostly dismiss, but finds the funny quirky part of every mundane event. The story that made me choke from coughing during my laughing fit was the one near the end about the candy apple. And I laughed hysterically without choking when I read about her tights at the gynocologist. And so many others. They were ALL funny. I really recommend this.
I found Laurie Notaro's various accounts of her life as a self-proclaimed "Idiot Girl" to be hilarious and well written. Knowing the city in which Notaro resides in provided me with a better understanding of her laugh-out-loud anecdotes. Laurie Notaro's writing can be compared to the narcissictic, yet hilarious Jen Lancaster; Notaro has just come to terms with herself.
I imagineded different, but I guess is a funny book. The writer has a different sense of humor than me, so I did not understand some of the chapters... but at the end I thought it had a few good chapters. It relates a serie of adventures, but is not a story, it follows cronologically the things happened to her.
Funny, witty, and charming. You can put this book down and come back later without having to remember what you read previously. A good, easy read.
