Simple recipes with almost-staple, everyday items. A few things are out of the ordinary, like some spices, but easy enough to follow and tasty enough so that you miss your piece of bread or cracker.

For the person who just wants to make some practical changes in their diet, this is not the cookbook for them. If one want to change the entire way one eats, it may be OK, however, many of the ingredients I have never heard of let alone try finding them or affording them in rural Arkansas.

Purchased this book to accompany "Grain Brain" which was referred to me by my brother. My mom died of Alzheimers 2 years ago and my dad was diagnosed 6 months ago. They were nearly opposite in every way: one shy, one out going, one an athlete, one couch potato...a very long list of contrasts. The thing they had in common was what they ate on a daily basis since my mother prepared all the meals. My brother and I are hoping this is the "key" so we don't get some form of dementia. Have tried only a few recipes and so far, we like them. We have a household of five people and we are hoping to clean up everyone's diet.
Great book, very educational but a cookbook always needs photographs. That's why I only gave 4 stars.

I am a diabetic with a bad family history of Alzheimer's. I had heard about Dr. David Perlmutter from a family member and started reading more about him and the work he is doing. From that I ordered the Grain Brain Cookbook. I'm altering the foods I eat to maintain a better blood sugar level and more brain power to keep Alzheimer's out of my life. I will purchase more of his books. What he writes makes good sense and he has examples of how people have changed their lives. I want to be one of those people.
