I loved the Goonies when it first came out and I was a kid. My friends and I used to rent it VHS and watch it all the time. We loved the characters in the movie. I remember "Mikey" the leader of the Goonies played by Sean Astin. Then there was "Mouth" played by Corey Feldman. Jonathan Ke Quan played "Data" my favorite character since he had all the cool gadgets, I loved the pair of teeth that prevents their freefall into the abyss. Jeff Cohen played "Chunk". He was the adorable little fat kid and most importantly did the "TRUFFLE SHUFFLE". I had a friend who used to do it better though, lol. Rounding out the Goonies was the big bro Goonie(or should I say, reluctant Goonie)"Brand" played by Josh Brolin. Who knew he would be the great actor he is today, gotta love his talent at bringing a character to life and also making it interesting. The bad guys were also cool. Anne Ramsey was Ma Fratelli, who couldnt love a face like that? The Fratelli brothers were played by Joe Pantoliano, Robert Davi, of course the great Oakland Raider John Matuszak played "Sloth"(Make-up done by The Burman Studio team). The Goonies are out to save their parents home from demolition and set out to find the lost treasure of One-Eyed-Willy. Mikey finds an old Treasure map in their attic so the Goonies take off on the adventure of a lifetime. It wont be an easy task with the Fratellis hot on their trail. Also on their trail is big brother "Brand". The Goonies was filmed in Astoria, Oregon filming beginning in October 1984. Goonies was co-directed by Richard Donner and rumored that Steven Spielberg was also kind of a co-director. I remember when the movie came out they came out with a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Goonies 2. Cindy Lauper made 2 Goonies videos and The Goonies 'R' Good Enough was all over MTV. There was a soundtrack as well. The Goonies: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack that featured Cyndi Lauper, REO Speedwagon, The Bangles, and others. The Goonies 25th Anniversary Event was just held last month in Astoria, Oregon with many of the actors showing. Richard Donner says there is a movie sequel in the works, as well as a Broadway musical adaptation. A cartoon was planned with the Cartoon Network but was soon cancelled. The Goonies is one of those movies that you can watch over and over. Its a great lazy day weekend movie where you can feel like a kid again, a movie where you can think back at how fun it was to be a kid.Read full review
This famous and very successful kid's movie is perhaps most intersting to grown-ups because it was (a very young) Sean Astin's first staring role. Indeed, it's amusing to see how similar his inspirational "We're the Goonies" speech in this movie is to his stirring loyalty oath to the Fellowship and Frodo at the end of The Two Towers. The movie itself is fast moving and fun, but it's loud and frenetic, with very much a "filmed on lot" look. Especially memorable are the Spanish speaking scenes by Corey Feldman and the hilariously explicit bit about the David statue (which could not, I think, be filmed today!).
My number one rainy day movie. Replacing my VHS tape. Now I just need a rainy day. Rainy days are scarce in California's Central Valley.

If you like 80's movies like I do, this movie is totally 80's. I grew up in the 80's and many times in the movie, I am like "oh yeah!" really understanding what they are meaning. It is so real on how kids and teenagers act. There are great one liners to like "Ok, Michael Jackson didn't come to my house to use the bathroom...but his sister did!" And you have Cyndi Lauper singing on the TV, and so on and so on. The story is great too! The good old treasure hunt! And the monster guy really makes it an original. This movie is soooo funny, like when this monster kisses one of the little boys right on the lips and he says "You smell like Phys Ed! The background music is even excellent for setting the mood of the movie. This is one of my all-time favorite movies! I had to buy it for my collection. I recommend you do too!Read full review
