The soundstage isn't the widest, but is wide enough to make you feel in the music. It has a good upfront presence, so you can say the soundstage has good depth. There is a good bass presence from the celo which has good texture. This is a folk album wich plays kind of like a jazz album. If you want to add something different to your collection other than just jazz and what-not, this is a great addition. Sound has great texture from all instruments. One of my favorites.

Some nice pieces musically but a bit too much going on with too many musicians playing at once for my tastes. No knock on Yo-Yo Ma or Stuart Duncan but the Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile only album is a better choice.

The recording is excellent and it is easy to understand why it received a technical Grammy for the recording. The music is, as expected, is performed with excellence and passion. The only reason for 4 stars is that after a few songs they begin to sound a little repetitive.

To categorize this CD as classical is really an injustice. I think instrumental folk would be much more descriptive. The songs are all fine works of artful instrument mastery, but rather appeal to the joker in each of us as adults. They are all beautiful songs, and you can feel them in your heart like at any good concert! Take the string section out for drinks, alot of them, and this might be what you'd get! No, Charlie Daniels didn't drop in, but this is awsome fiddle and straang swoonin! Will appeal to a really wide audience tastes and worth every penny!
I bought this CD because I love anything that YO-YO Ma has done and I also found the title rather intriguing. I love this CD and very glad I purchased it. It is great to listen to after a very trying day at work. Heykat
