I bought this item to replace a copy damaged by last year’s winter temperatures. The extended edition has more material than the Hollywood version and closer to the heart and spirit of Stieg Larsson’s novels. The movies are an exceptional and extremely painful watch, dealing with issues of facism, antisemitism, misogyny and a government’s abuse of power against an individual on all levels and treatment of the same individual who is not perceived as “normal”. I have viewed it many times and discovered things I missed in previous viewings. This movie is more appreciated by me since the passing of the actor Michael Nyquist (Michael “Kalle” Bloomquist) in 2017.

The movie was not as clear as other DVD's I've purchased on eBay...I returned the product...first time that ever happened to me.

If you read the BOOKS FIRST, then this is the Edition you want. If you didn't read the books and don't intend to then the "theater release" versions of the trilogy will do-- I guess... My understanding is that the "Extended Edition" is ACTUALLY the original presentation on Swedish Television. So you get the "unedited" versions, which are much more DETAILED. In fact, you get nigh on to two and a half hours more original content then the theater releases. GWTDT is about 30 minutes longer; TGWPWF is nearly an hour longer as is TGWKHN. This is the SET for your permanent collection. CAUTION! IF YOU HAVE NOT READ OR SEEN ANY OF THESE, THERE ARE SOME VERY GRAPHIC DEPRAVED SCENES THAT SHOULD NOT BE SEEN BY CHILDREN AND THE SENSITIVE. TO GIVE YOU A CLUE, THE ORIGINAL TITLE FOR THESE WAS, AND I MAY BE PARAPHRASING A BIT, "MEN WHO HATE WOMEN". SO I ADVISE STRICT CAUTION! That being said, I understand that Stieg Larssen (the author- for you non-readers ) had plans for a total of ten books in the series-- I sigh for the seven we will never read and whatever original plots that were changed after his death. But I would guess that many more butts would have been kicked, and many more heads would have rolled. Lisbeth Salander... WHAT A BABE! P.S. Never have seen the "AMERICAN" version of TGWTDT. If it rolls into the blu ray or across the cable I will take the time, but I have not missed it at all, so consequently it has no part in this review.Read full review
Although sexual abuse of women can be a tough subject, the 3 books and now movies in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series are so well-written and brought to the movie screen that it is easy to see why they have been a world-wide phenomena. I read the books first (which I would recommend), and was not disappointed with the movie version. In fact, I was interested in how the female lead would be played in the movie. I was not disappointed since Noomi Rapace does an outstanding job as L. S. For any of you who have not seen these movies, you have a wonderful treat in store.

I bought the trilogy because of the extra content that was not in the individual DVDs, and I wasn't disappointed. I got so much more out of it, watching each movie in 2 parts, that I wouldn't have thought possible. I think the books are brilliant and the Trilogy DVDs are equally brilliant. I highly recommend them to anyone. And the bonus (4th) DVD crowns it all where you learn more about the life of the author, who passed away without seeing or enjoying the fruits of his labors: a tragedy in itself. But the whole phenomena of the books, the films, the awesome beauty of Sweden and its people has to be seen to be believed. I give it 10 out of 10!!
