We are blessed with a high needs baby girl, Payton. Early on, I really struggled to understand why she wasn't like all the other "easy" babies my friends had. My pediatrician told me to let her "cry it out" - in fact, that's all I seemed to hear, "Let her cry it out.". I was feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. This book will show you that your instincts are CORRECT. Letting her cry it out will not work with every baby. High needs children need more of everything: your time, your energy, your breast, your arms, your attention, and most of all, your patience and love. This book will calm your frayed nerves. You will understand that you are very much NOT alone in raising and parenting your fussy baby. Dr. Sears is one of the most recognized physicians in the pediatric world. He explains common and not-so-common reasons why a baby is fussy. He'll give you real life experienced tips to help calm your baby. This book will make you feel better about your role as a parent and love source in your childs' life. SO many times I found myself saying out loud "Dr. Sears must've peaked through my window because he is describing Payton exactly!" - I'm sure you will too. He talks about how important is to nurture and support your developing child. He sympathizes with mothers, and assures us that this period is such a relatively short period of time in our lives, but that the rewards of attachment parenting are life-long. It's an inexpensive book, and is written in easy to understand verbage. No medical jargon to further confuse you. My favorite part of the book is at the back. Mothers wrote their own survival stories. If nothing else, you can read that you are not alone, or that someone's baby was more challenging than your baby. I recommend this book and EVERY ONE of Dr. Sears books. If only more pediatrician's understood how we are shaping our future by the way we raise our children. Pretty profound.Read full review
I LOVED this book from the first time I picked it up and it seemed as though it was written about my own baby. My baby was colicky and screamed for 2-3 hours every night from 2months old to 4 months old. He nursed every half hour for 4 months, and seemed to need constant attention and motion. When reading this, I realized he wasn't the only one, and that I needed to stop listening to naysayers telling me I was spoiling him, or to let him 'cry it out.' This book reminds you that God gave you instincts on how to deal with your baby, you need only to use them. All babies want to be constantly held, loved, and feel secure, but some won't settle for anything less. Some won't let you just put them down and go about your business. A great book with lots of ideas on raising a happy, securely attached baby. If you've never heard of attachment parenting, read this and other Sears books to learn about this instinct driven, time-tested method of parenting. Dr. William Sears and Martha Sears are people you can get trusted advice from because of their years of experience and dealing with their own 9 children. (9!)Read full review
Bought this for my first baby. He's gonna be 2 months on Tuesday and this has been spot on with his personality and traits so far. I'm so glad I got this book and even if my baby turns out to not be a true high needs baby? Still a great investment!

I really like the books from the sears parenting library. I don't agree with EVERYTHING that they talk about but 95% of it, I do agree with. The only complaint I have is that they do kind of repeat themselves through out all the books. There is a guarantee that if you have more then 1 of their books you will read some information twice. They have like 8 or 9 kids so they have the expeirence. And they are doctors so you can trust that the advice they give is not just old wives tales and it will be safe.
Book is perfect for any family with a high needs baby. Shipping was faster than expected
