I purchased this book because I am hypoglycemic and I follow the Zone diet or the 40-30-30 method in order to keep my blood sugar stable. I have found the recipes in The Formula to be wonderful and much more palatable than some of the recipes in the original Zone publications. A wonderful part of The Formula is their inclusion of recipes that will appeal to children. Some portions of the book are a bit repetitive but all in all it makes this method of eating simple to understand and follow. I think this book makes a good companion to The Zone. I would recommend other readers purchase both...The Formula for the recipes and The Zone for learning the block method of meal planning to ensure proper quantities of carbs, fats and proteins.
Very easy to read and understand. Not as complicated as the Zone which this work is based on. If you follow this as a way of eating for life I believe it is very healthy way to do so. I bought this book because I was looking for a healthy way to loose weight. There are several meal plans in this book, both for women and men, and some really delicious recipes too. Overall I rate this as one of the better weight loss programs that I have looked at.
I have ordered this book twice for 2 of my friends. I have it and since my friends have seen the results of my weight loss they decided they wanted copies also. This is a great book with 100's of recipes and believe me you will not feel like you are dieting. In fact it becomes a new way of life and all the recipes are easily made with nothing out of the ordinary. It has become my daily bible and I feel great. If you want to lose weight and not starve yourself this is it. I am diabetic and the reason for trying this diet is because it is extremely geared for diabetic but also for non diabetics. So it becomes easy to cook for the whole family, whether one has health issues and the others don't. This book is so simple to follow! The common sense, no-nonsense approach to weight loss is easy to understand and easy to follow. The recipes are quick, easy, delicious, and make you feel like there's absolutely nothing you're missing out on, as some diets always do! The ingredients in the recipes are easy to find, and since I live in a small town, this is very important to me. If there was a bottle of "will-power" they could sell you with this book to accommodate me during my weak moments, it would be a guaranteed weight loss program for anyone! So many other weight loss programs are hard to follow and make me feel deprived, but not this one! Sometimes I feel like I'm eating too much, but yet I'm still losing weight! I think this is one program I can stick with for life!
My sister told me about this book/Diet, so I bought it on E-bay for a rediculously low price right after Christmas when weight gain is always at a all time high. Easy to follow menus with real food plus an on the go menu and on the road menu. Even a menu for people that don't cook. Not only have I lost my Holiday lbs. but I have to date lost an additional 5lbs. I'm quite pleased with the results, and don't feel restricted from eating yummy foods.
