You have got to love John Grisham, as I love his style of putting a story together can keep you busy for a time that draws on your private times with your family, kids, and chores. "The Firm", eh? Made me grin, several times.Things are coming...quickly! Here's Mitch McDeere, just out of Harvard , 3rd in his class, owing money to the U.S.GVMT. for most , if not all of his costs of his four-[4] years in Harvard, and he never let up as "Abby" , his wife, and their pet dog, struggled through the whole affair of studying and taking every minute of the days that were avail. to do so, as he knew he would be rewarded, after all, he's a "believing" type, who knows that all things come back to visit you, both good & evil. He has "Bendini","Blah-blah & "Blah" of Tn. romancing him like a $1000.00 whore, although he has an impeccable record throughout his life, he is now tempted beyond what any moral man could bear, when offers from this 40-lawyer firm [which is rather small], holds out to him $185K per annum position, and offers to get rid of that "pig" he's been driving and smokin' through college. All he has to do is go and pick their color..can you dig it? Oh, yes and the keys. He has his grants from our Uncle Sam paid up and a sweet low-percentage Mortgage is offered to him from "The Bendini" Firm , and all this is happening while he is being wooed by Chicago and bigger firms from all over the US are still coming in~! Yeah, Grisham, a Lawyer, a good lawyer, is telling you what he knows from the heart and soul, as he had been in Mitch McDeere's place many times, only, he is here telling you what a "real dream job" is, and if you would JUMP at it or "kick it around" some. But, Grisham, puts in more salt than this novel can hold, and really puts "US", the readers to "the test" in this tale of Playing on Greed, Power, Fear, as the F.B.I. is sniffing around McDeere like a "bitch-in-heat". They know something of the firm that they want from Mr. Mitch..and they figure that a cool few $100K ought to bring him under their roof, and help out with some badly wanted information, very badly wanted. Mitch? He wants the position, as the "Firm" seems to be a dream machine, there to fulfill all of his and Abby's dreams, as they want him to have very little pressure from the work, and so the heavy offers!~!~! There had to be a reason for all of this "life-bling".They have something in mind, or is it the F.B.I., and a new guy named "Tarrance" is introduced into the fray by becoming the main broker between the Bureau and Mitch McDeere. Mitch is enticed, waltzed by the "FIBBIE" to come with them on a search of the "Firm's" activities, especially in the Grande Caymans, where Mitch goes as his first assignment when he does buy the "Firm's deal". Don't think you know how this is going down, because as Mitch and a Firm partner named "Abanks" take off to the Caymans for his first working vacation, to get him introduced into the "way" things are done, with the Partners, some recently died, and mourned as they were 20-year men, and faithful, as Mitch was expected to be too, but, soon, moralistic McDeere is being watched by everyone next to him as he finds out that even his house is being "bugged", but wait, the Firm wants upstanding family men with kids, and 2 cats in the yard. What's going on? Loved this book as I shrugged to start it off, and smiled when I closed the book, no, rather I laughed, loudly! It's good to be "the boss"! RickRead full review
