Bob Stoddard is the recognized expert on Pepsi-Cola collectables. His previous book, "Introduction to Pepsi Collecting" is nice but it has a limited about of information. This new book has a much greater number of collectables and shows them in a way that I find the most helpful as a collector and dealer in Soda Pop collectables. The book shows every item in full color photographs, there are no written descriptions with out photographs, each item shows a date of use, size, rarity, and suggested price/value. Having the items in color makes it easier to compare the reference with the actual item. He starts the book with a history of the company, the evolution of the trademark, and slogans used over the years. I also like the fact that this has a hard cover. He shows some known reproductions and out right fakes but I believe there are probably more and I would have liked to see a list of suspected items. The book confirmed the fact that I had a fake item in my collection. Collecting on a budget it hurts when you find an item is a fake. The layout of the book is excellent but I would suggest the placement of Calendars in their own section instead of in Novelties etc. Overall I believe this is one of the best soda pop reference guides available. If the author retains this format and only adds items to update the guide it can only get better with age.Read full review
This is the most comprehensive and complete book for the Pepsi collector. Even though there are many Pepsi items not in this book, there are so many in it that even seasoned Pepsi collectors have not seen them in person. The author really knows his stuff and gives so much information you could spend a long time investigating Pepsi history. The author uses a rating scale for rarity. "A" being the more common items and "E" being to most rare items. There are lists of the Pepsi logo over the years, slogans used since 1903. The book is well laid out and divided into sections such as Signs, Containers, Paper Novelties, Toys and Accessories. I could say so much more about this book but all I need to say is, if you buy it, you won't be disappointed.
I decided to purchase this book in the hopes of gaining more information about my particular Pepsi related interest which is cartoon glasses, more specifically, the Warner Brothers collections. While this is a wonderful book full of information and color photos on many other Pepsi collectibles, I was disappointed to see only four pages dedicated to drinking glasses in general. Only one of those pages contained very limited information on cartoon glasses. (And only one picture...a Sylvester glass filled with soda.) If you are looking for a book with excellent illustrations and some basic information on the collectibles as well as some of the history of Pepsi Cola, this is the book for you. If you are a cartoon glass collector, this book will provide little if any useful information directly related to your hobby. (Look for a more specific book on drinking glasses.)Read full review
I’ve always collected Pepsi products, not really having any real knowledge of its history or the collectibility of its products. This encyclopedia immensely enriched my knowledge as to the origin of Pepsi-Cola, and its journey into American’s homes. I love it!
