The Devil Wears Prada is a catchy title but what's even more catchy is the way that Ms. Weisberger captures the immediate attention of her reader. Without so much as a blink of the eye, you are suddenly immersed in the world of Andrea Sachs, the poorly paid junior assistant to Miranda Priestly, Runway Magazine's Editor-In-Chief. The job is Andrea's first and, if she can make it with Miranda a year, promises of a better position lure her to try. Miranda, however, does not make it easy. She is demanding, self-centered, rude, condescending and expects Andrea to be at her beck and call 24/7. But, the perks of clothes, celebrity and the possibility of fulfulling her dream as a writer for the New Yorker keep her coming back for more. As a result, Andrea turns over her life to Miranda. She sacrifices relationships with her best friends and is not present for major family events. The writing is lively, funny and engaging. You sympathize with Andrea's stress and hate Miranda for her egomania - all the while wondering -- will this be worth it in the end? And, the answer is, yes, it is very much worth it. Andrea learns a valuable lesson and comes out a better person. So, read the book. It is entertaining and you will not want to put it down.Read full review
The Devil Wears Prada, by Lauren Weisberger, is an absolute must read! I felt that it sums up the grown-up need to read about "Cinderella" and the "Ugly Duckling." It's complete with a wicked queen, and a heroine (the child within us we all keep secretly at bay). We see that smart and sexy can coexist. A real DIVA is inside all of us. The key is empowering that Diva into an everyday woman with real gusto in an otherwise grueling dog-eat-dog world. We read in envy as the mousy brunette, in all her frumpishness, timidly, and nerdy is miraculously and humorously transformed into a real-world, success ladder climbing, hob knobber, who not only realizes she holds strength, power, and a whole set of morals to boot. It even has a somewhat happy ending. If you have seen the movie, and enjoyed it, this is a must. If you saw the movie and didn't care for it, this book is still a must read. It is a case where there is no coming close in the movie version. The book is better hands-down! The book takes you powerfully by the heart a drags you along, mystified, laughing, and cheering it on all the way through. Bravo to the Devil Wears Prada!Read full review
This is a must read for any Ebay clothing seller! It has everything we dream of! this book is an excellent choice for moms or people without much extra time to read. It is light and humerous. It isn't chuck full of romance either. this is what the real world is like and if you can not relate to the main character you will be able to relate to some of the people that she works with. I loved the fact that this book made me feel like I was part of it. To be totally honest I bought the book for the title and the cover! I had no idea if it would be a good read or not. I buy all of my books judging them by the cover. It works for me. this book has been made into a movie too! Coming out in the theaters in June I believe! It has some great actresses in the movie. Sure to be a winner! If you are looking for intense reading this book is NOT for you. VERY lighthearted!Read full review
This was a great, fun read! Not serious or heavy, this book is a super beach read filled with fashion-office-girly intrigue. Normally, I classics and enjoy "heavy" subjects, but this was just like a frothy, fun dessert! Kudos to Weisberger, who created a sympathetic main character and carved a vicious antagonist out of a block of ice. Well-written and quickly paced, this is a "chick-lit" do...especially if you think YOU have it rough at work...
This is an awesome book! I have yet to see the movie but the book has sustained my interest throughout reading it! There is never a dull moment in the book. I decided to buy the book to see what all the talk was about. With a small child I don't get too the movies very often but I don't feel that I have missed anything! The book is an easy and very comical read. Who hasn't felt their boss is the devil?
