If you are an experienced runner, you may benefit from this book on the information about increasing milage, etc, but you could probably find the information you want faster and cheaper online. BUT if you are a beginning runner or not sure you could ever be a runner, then this book would be of benefit to you. I have never been a runner and never thought I would be. I picked this book up from the library on a whim. After reading part of it, I took it back. A month later, I checked it out again and read more of it. When I took it back that time I knew it was a book worth owning. As a result of this book I have started a running program and am gently building up stamina. I know if I follow the schedule, I will become a capable of, something I have never done in my life, running 3 miles. Things I like about this book: -Each chapter begins with an inspiring short essay from a woman runner -The suggested schedule for beginning runners is clear and easy to follow -The positive attitude of the author -The tips for running in different types of weather and tips for dealing with women specific issues Things I don't like about this book: -Although I was pleased that the stretching section seemed to follow current guidance. Some information on diet, research facts, etc is dated.Read full review
i really liked this book. i thought the advice was great and motivational. it even gave me a pretty good strength training routine that i've been using and found really helpful. what i really like is that i can grow with this book. with the chapters about pregnancy and menopause i know what to expect and how i can go about safely working out and running once i decide to have kids. anyway it's well worth it...
