According to 80's Music Central, this is the album that broke Erasure into U.S. hearts and charts. The album sees Andy Bell contributing more to the songwriting than on Wonderland and the content weighs heavier on the emotional scale (note the coming-out track "Hideaway.") But beyond the lyricism are Vince Clarke's keyboard creativity and Flood's crafty production. The singles "Sometimes" and "Victim of Love" stand as strong today as do overlooked gems like "Leave Me To Bleed" and their version of "In the Hall of the Mountain King {from "Peer Gynt Suite" No. 1 Opus.)" Some consumers may have missed this release by purchasing the remix/live compilation, The Two Ring Circus, which was released several months later. This album is also noteworthy as Clarke began using subtle acoustic guitar on this album which lead to broader use and acceptance on The Innocents.Read full review
