Ms. Frank can weave a wonderful story in all her books! This one is especially appropriate for the holidays and teaches us that the gifts aren't always under the tree! Theodora is hosting a gathering for her family in her grand South Carolina home, but once they are all there she can't help but survey all the bickering brood and shake her head in disappointment when she thinks back on the holidays of her youth when their beloved housekeeper, Pearl, would cook up the most mouthwatering dishes and put up the most beautiful decorations. This was what Theodora was wishing for....a Christmas imbued with unending warmth and love. But Pearl is long dead and Theodora is wishing she were here to show her how to bring off a Christmas that will show the family the true meaning of the holiday. Ms. Frank's yuletide story will bring tears to your eyes so grab the tissues! There is a big surprise in the story, Theodora's wish is heard and answered and an unexpected visitor comes for a short visit, but she leaves behind something that will last a lifetime.Read full review
This is my favorite Christmas story. I lost my last copy and was so happy to find it again. I read it every year. Just a warm humorous story with excellent recipes as well.

This book is sooooo wonderful! If you were a fan of Dorothea Benton Frank anyway - you are going to absolutely LOVE this book - even if you never read her works before - you'll love it too. It's sort of a modern day "Christmas Carol" - making you so very aware of the true meaning of Christmas. The character "Pearl" is one of the best yet. You'll love her at first sight! If you could actually get a dysfunctional family to all read this book - it would probably help - just as the story goes in the book. It's a magical story and I highly recommend it. I bought some for Christmas presents for my reading friends and they loved it too.
I loved this book, and now all my co-workers are borrowing it from me to read! I really made me stop and think about Christmas tradition, and how much most of us have lost in the last generation of family. We seem to be too busy with work and family problems to stop and enjoy the one holiday season of the year that is meant to bring us closer together. This book was a real eye opener.... DON'T LET IT GET BY YOU!!
Ms. Frank writes great stories about the LowCountry. This is a story about how Christmas used to be when families would to get together, with the help of a friendly ghost this family found out that with a little love to go a long way, Christmas could be every day of the year.
