I did enjoy many, many of the eyewitness accounts and the photos in the book. However, I disagreed with much of the commentary in between written by Jennings. He is very slanted and very liberal. I do not understand how you could write a book on the 20th century and not mention such an important statesman as Pope John Paul II. He was not a national leader but he was arguably as important as Walesa in Poland's revolution and as important as any other world leader in the eventual destruction of the Berlin Wall and the "Iron Curtain." I do not see the OJ trial as prominate in the 90's as in the book. What about Clarence Thomas, George Bush (senior), or Mother Teresa (who was at least as well known as Diana and did much more for the poor)? This was not a balanced, neutral treatment of the Century. I was there too. There is a lot of good material here. I just wish he had not inserted his personal agenda and extremely liberal world view into an otherwise good book. If he had left it to the eyewitness interviews and pictures it would have been 100% better.Read full review
I was born in the middle of the 20th century and was never much interested in history until I could compare other's reflections with my own lived experiences. I'm only a little way into the book but have a hard time putting it down. Each page is worth lingering over.
